About SENGUARD and this programme
SENGUARD is a UK technology company that has built an app to help protect people from online fraud. The app works by checking links and web content on your device before you open them and warning you if something looks suspicious.
We are running a structured six-month programme, supervised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the UK body responsible for regulating financial services. The FCA has accepted SENGUARD into its Regulatory Sandbox. The programme runs from April to September 2026.
What the app does
The app checks links and websites on your device(s) in real time. When you tap a link or open a website, the app looks at it quickly in the background. Depending on what it finds, one of three things will happen:
- Low risk: the page opens normally with no interruption.
- Medium risk: you will see a warning. You can choose to go ahead or go back.
- High risk: the page will be blocked with a message explaining why.
If you think a site has been blocked by mistake, you can report it and we will review it.
Permissions
To do its job, SENGUARD uses runs checks on web addresses and content for threats. It does not:
- record your browsing history
- read your personal messages
- access your banking apps, passwords, or financial details
- send your internet traffic to any third party
All detailed checking happens on your own device. Only a small amount of non-identifying information is sent to our secure servers when a threat is detected. To check links, SENGUARD sets up a secure VPN connection on your device. This is how SENGUARD can spot threats no matter where a link comes from – whether in a text message, email, social media or a web browser. The VPN does not send your internet traffic anywhere else and does not read the content of your private messages or encrypted data. Full details are in our Privacy Notice.
Your right to withdraw
Taking part is entirely voluntary. You can stop at any time by uninstalling the app. This immediately stops all data processing. There are no consequences and no penalty of any kind.
